Cynergy Looks Back:
Two seasons in to the Cynergy campaign and its been a tough year on the Millennium scene. Rome wasn't built in a day, and everyone in Cynergy knows that to become the best, in takes time and dedication. We take a look back at the highs and lows of the past two seasons.
Originally, the plan with Cynergy was to spend all of 2006 training and then to aim as high as possible in 2007. But with the SPL being created at the end of the 2006 Millennium season, we decided to jump in the deep end and go for qualification by competing in 2006. It was quite a challenge and a hell of a learning experience. First off, we had missed the first Millennium event at Marseille, so we decided to ref the second event at Bitburg and compete in the final three events in an effort to rank in the top thirty teams and bag ourselves an SPL spot. As I said, it was one hell of a learning curve… we had a bunch of young guys who’s experience mostly consisted of playing the NSPL and perhaps one Campaign Cup and suddenly we were facing the likes of Bullets, Icon, Chilli Peppers, Blackout and other big names. To our credit, we didn’t balk at the challenge – we dug deep, trained hard and consistently improved to the point where we just missed out on Sunday Club at Campaign Cup at the end of the 2006 season and finished off in 32nd place – just a few points short of an SPL spot.
That was a bitter pill to swallow, but we’d set the scene for Cynergy – we play at the highest level we can and take the challenge by the horns, giving it 100%.
We set out on our 2007 mission with renewed determination and once again decided to ref the first event and play the remaining ones, confident that we could make a big impact in Division One of the Millennium Series. Then disaster struck; our roster took hits from all sides as players were poached and other players crumbled under the pressure of commitment and competing at such a high level. We made a mad scramble for players and struggled on with the start of the season, making Sunday club for our first time in Germany and then again at Campaign. But, the damage was done and come Belguim, we were reeling from the effects of struggling through and further problems with players meant we had to pull out of the event at the last minute. This hurt; for a committed team, it was unthinkable and we were the highest ranked UK team in Div One and sitting in eight, we had a great chance of coming in the top six and gaining that SPL spot we so sort after. But it wasn’t to be - for the second year running, we came so close that we could taste success only to be denied once more.
Most teams would suffer hugely with this disappointment, but Cynergy has continued to grind and build, recruiting more talented players and further improving our training and organisation. It’s been one hell of a rollercoaster ride so far, we’ve had our fair share of crap to deal with. Next year is year three and we are determined to be ready for it and come out all guns blazing, proving our worth and making our mark… together we’re strong, together we are Cynergy.
